On Sunday, September 10, 2023, a road rage incident near Louisiana Tech University escalated into a dangerous situation when gunshots were fired at a residence less than a mile from campus, endangering the lives of several students.
Using data captured by Insight LPR cameras, Louisiana Tech Police dispatchers were able to identify the license plates of two vehicles involved in the road rage incident on Tech Drive. One of these vehicles was linked to the shooter responsible for the disturbance at the residence.
“The Insight LPR system was essential in providing the key evidence that allowed us to quickly track down those involved,” said Assistant Chief Bill Davis of the Louisiana Tech University Police Department.
The vehicle registration information obtained from the license plates gave Ruston Police investigators a crucial lead, helping them resolve the case efficiently and ensure the safety of the community.
This incident underscores the important role LPR technology plays in enhancing safety for communities. By providing real-time data, Insight LPR helps law enforcement respond faster, prevent further harm, and maintain a secure atmosphere in areas with high traffic, such as campuses and surrounding neighborhoods. Insight LPR continues to be a trusted tool for schools and communities alike, empowering agencies to solve cases more effectively and protect the public with greater precision.
